How Much Does a StairMaster Cost?

A new StairMaster with the revolving staircase is a serious purchase. When a used commercial one comes in, our technician inspects and services it, and it usually costs less than new. Prices move with the model and what is on our floor, so see current prices on our stepmills page or call 208-345-2226 for today's numbers on the StairMaster 4G, 8G and 10G and the TRUE Palisade Climber.

It's one of the most expensive pieces of cardio equipment you can buy, and one of the hardest workouts per minute. Here's how to know if it belongs in your house.

StairMaster, StepMill, stair climber: what's the difference?

People use these words interchangeably. StairMaster is the brand, and the machines come in two very different types.

  • StepMill / Gauntlet: the real revolving staircase you see at the gym. This is what most people mean. "StepMill" is StairMaster's own model name.
  • Stepper / stair stepper: two pedals that go up and down. Much smaller, much cheaper, easier on the ceiling.

Will it fit in my house?

This is the question that matters most, and the one people ask last.

  • Ceiling height. You stand well off the floor at the top step. Add your own height plus a few inches. The StairMaster 4G needs an 8-foot ceiling; check the 8G, 10G and Palisade Climber against your room before you buy. Many Idaho basements don't have it. Measure first.
  • Weight. Heavy. It's a ground-floor or garage machine for most homes. Local garage delivery starts at $179; carrying it upstairs or downstairs inside the house costs extra.
  • Power. The 8G, 10G and TRUE Palisade Climber run on a normal 15-amp household outlet. Ask us about the 4G.
  • Footprint. Roughly the floor space of a treadmill; we'll confirm the exact dimensions for the model you're looking at.

Is a used StairMaster a good idea?

Yes, if it's been properly gone through. These machines come out of health clubs with a lot of hours on them. The chain, the step bearings and the drive are what wear. When those have been inspected and replaced where needed, a used commercial StepMill will usually outlast a machine built for home use.

Buying one off a marketplace listing with no service history is a gamble. Our service calls are $129 an hour, and we only service equipment we originally sold (plus authorized manufacturer warranty work), so a private-sale machine may leave you finding your own repair help. On an unknown machine, the parts are the wild card.

What we do

We sell StairMaster and TRUE climbers new, and used when one comes in. Used machines are in-store pickup or local delivery only, and our own technicians service the machines we sell. If the ceiling won't work, we'll tell you, and talk through other options that fit your room.

See the StairMaster and climber models we carry, or call 208-345-2226 and we'll check your ceiling height with you over the phone.
