Gym Equipment Repair and Maintenance in Boise
Gym Outfitters repairs and maintains fitness equipment in homes and facilities across Southern Idaho, Eastern Oregon and Western Wyoming. Four technicians service the equipment Gym Outfitters sold, new and used; we do not repair machines bought elsewhere. They also perform manufacturer warranty repairs for Precor, TRUE, StairMaster, SciFit, Star Trac, Woodway, Freemotion, LeMond, Cybex, Hoist and Tuff Stuff. Call 208-345-2226 with the make, model and serial number to schedule, or use the contact form.
How much does treadmill repair cost in Boise?
A worn walking belt, a slipping drive belt and a dead console are very different jobs, so we do not quote a flat repair price over the phone; we quote the hourly rate, tell you what the symptom usually means, and confirm parts after the technician has the covers off. Warranty repairs on the brands listed below are handled through the manufacturer.
| What the treadmill is doing | Common causes | What the visit covers |
|---|---|---|
| Belt slips, hesitates or drifts to one side | Belt tension or alignment; a dry or worn deck | Tension and center the belt, lubricate or assess the deck, check rollers |
| Slows or stops when you step on | Worn belt and deck raising motor load; motor control board | Load test, belt and deck inspection, board diagnosis |
| Grinding, squeaking or knocking | Roller bearings, drive belt, loose hardware | Bearing and roller check, drive-belt inspection, tighten the frame |
| Error code or blank console | Console, speed sensor, wiring, safety key | Console and sensor diagnosis, safety-key test |
| Will not power on | Power supply, breaker, cord, key | Power path check from the outlet to the board |
What does a typical service visit cover?
Our technicians carry a basic supply of tools and parts so they can perform routine service and make minor repairs on the spot. A typical visit: confirm the fault with you, open the machine, diagnose, replace or adjust what can be done from the truck, test it under load, and leave you with a note of what was done and any part that has to be ordered. If a part is needed, we order it and come back to fit it.
What does preventive maintenance include for a facility?
Scheduled preventive maintenance catches wear before it becomes a breakdown. We run scheduled programs for health clubs, hotels, apartment fitness rooms and schools on the equipment we sold.
| Machine | What a preventive-maintenance visit typically covers |
|---|---|
| Treadmill | Clean and lubricate deck and belt, check tension and alignment, inspect rollers, bearings and drive components, tighten hardware, test console and safety key |
| Elliptical / AMT | Inspect and lubricate pivots and tracks, check arms and pedals for play, test resistance, console and heart-rate grips |
| Upright, recumbent and spin bike | Check bearings, belts and resistance, adjust pedals and seat slides, test console |
| Stepmill / climber | Inspect step chain or belt, lubricate per the manufacturer, check hand rails and emergency stop |
| Strength (selectorized, functional trainer, rack) | Inspect cables, pulleys and weight-stack guide rods, check upholstery and welds, tighten hardware |
We recommend a scheduled program for any facility (see commercial gym equipment in Boise) and a once-a-year visit for a busy home machine.
Which brands do you service under warranty?
We perform manufacturer warranty repairs for Precor, TRUE, StairMaster, SciFit, Star Trac, Woodway, Freemotion, LeMond, Cybex, Hoist and Tuff Stuff. Warranty service and out-of-warranty repair are both limited to equipment that was bought from Gym Outfitters, new or used: treadmills, ellipticals, AMTs, upright and recumbent bikes, stepmills, rowers and strength equipment. Not sure whether your machine qualifies? Call with the make and model and we will tell you right away.
What should I have ready when I call?
Five things make the call quick:
- The brand, model and serial number. The sticker is usually near the power cord, on the frame under the motor hood, or under the frame.
- A short description of the problem and when it happens: on start-up, under load, at speed, on incline.
- Whether it makes a noise, stops, shows an error code (write it down) or will not power on at all.
- Where the machine is: ground floor, upstairs, basement, apartment fitness room, and how our technician gets in.
- Whether the machine is down completely — tell us, and we will schedule accordingly.
FAQ: repair and maintenance
Do you charge a diagnostic fee?
Yes.
How long do replacement parts take to arrive?
It depends on the brand and the part. Commercial manufacturers generally keep parts available for a decade or more after a model is discontinued, which is one reason commercial machines are worth repairing.
Do you offer preventive maintenance contracts for commercial facilities?
Yes. We run scheduled preventive maintenance programs for health clubs, hotels, apartment fitness rooms and schools on the equipment we sold, covering the checks in the table above at a set interval.
Do you repair equipment I did not buy from Gym Outfitters?
No. We service and repair only equipment that was bought from Gym Outfitters, and warranty work is limited to the equipment we sold. If your machine came from elsewhere and is no longer worth fixing, our technician-inspected used equipment is the usual replacement.
How fast can a technician come out?
It depends on the schedule and where you are. Call 208-345-2226 and we will set an appointment around your availability; tell us when you call if the machine is down completely so we can prioritize it.
Should I repair or replace my treadmill?
Commercial-grade machines from Precor, TRUE, Cybex or StairMaster are almost always worth repairing: parts stay available for years. A consumer treadmill more than seven or eight years old with a failed motor control board often is not. Our rule of thumb: if the service call plus parts would cost more than about half the price of a comparable technician-inspected used machine, replacing usually makes more sense. If it is replacement, see our used treadmills.
